Sophie’s latest body of work explores the relationship between shape, form, colour, and space.
For this body of work, Sophie has been inspired by house floor plans, and how the simple lines and angles in these plans eventually evolve into three-dimensional homes—often architectural masterpieces in their own right.
For five years now, Sophie has been passionate about working with reclaimed materials from villas and bungalows, drawn to the history and character embedded in each piece. No two pieces of Sophie’s work are alike; every material is unique, with many of them being over 100 years old.
An influence on this series comes from one of Sophie’s favourite artists, Piet Mondrian. Mondrian’s transitional work increasingly allowed colour and form to speak for themselves, a principle that resonates with Sophie’s artistic practice.
An important part of Sophie’s work is the careful sourcing of materials and the thoughtful use of colour. She selects wood from suppliers, ensuring it retains its original state and colour palette.
